Our Story

A place that feels
like it was made
for stopping

Lower Twin Campground sits where the New River carves through the Blue Ridge Mountains of far southwestern Virginia. We've been welcoming visitors for years — families, couples, anglers, hikers, and anyone who needs a weekend that doesn't involve a screen.

The campground occupies a stretch of riverbank that's been special to people in this part of Virginia long before we put up the signs. It's quiet here. The kind of quiet where you hear the water, the wind in the pines, and your own thoughts again.

Whether you roll up with a tent, park an RV, or settle into one of our cabins for the night, we'll make sure you have a fire ring, a view worth waking up to, and a phone number to call if you need anything.

Kayaking on the New River surrounded by mountain cliffs

River Adventures

The New River is one of the oldest rivers in North America — and one of the best for kayaking, canoeing, and float trips. We're right on the water. Bring your own gear or ask us about local outfitters.

Mountain Trails

Trails radiate from our doorstep — easy walks to hidden waterfalls, steeper climbs to ridge-top views, and everything in between. The Appalachian Trail isn't far, and neither are the quiet paths most visitors miss.

Evenings by the Fire

Every site comes with a fire ring. Bring marshmallows, a guitar, or just a good book. The stars out here are something else — no streetlights to compete with, just sky.

Fishing

Smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, and catfish all call the New River home. Wade from the bank or launch a boat — the river rewards patience and a quiet approach.

Four Seasons

Spring wildflowers, summer river days, fall color that fills the whole valley, and winter silence wrapped in snow. Each season here has its own rhythm, and we're open year-round.
